Galerie 21 : Vincent Galinier : 9:00 a.m., Toulouse awakens

Preview

This week’s unusual exhibition.
Vincent Galinier‘s exhibition is on view until September 30th at Galerie 21 in Toulouse.
Entitled 9:00 heures, Toulouse s’éveille (9AM, Toulouse awakens), it is accompanied by this text.

“Shall we have a coffee?”
A ritual that punctuates our days, our meetings, our breaks.

Five years ago, as we entered into the COVID period,
I embarked on the idea of taking the time, establishing rituals around a coffee, in the heart of Toulouse.

Faced with the isolation we were experiencing, I organized morning meetings on the terraces of the Place du Capitole.
At exactly 9:00 a.m. to establish a regular rhythm.

During this period of digital communication, I decided to work on a very unique approach, incorporating technological choices, even going so far as to make my own camera.

During these meetings, the main goal was to enjoy unique moments over coffee, with a newspaper, or other familiar objects.
But above all, not to be solely preoccupied with the challenge of taking the perfect photo, nor to be absorbed by any screen.

In this context, and even though my choice was to work with a digital camera, I decided to adopt habits.
Those that remind us of the analog world: taking few pictures, waiting for them, preparing them, and presenting them…

The goal was then to share these moments through regular posts on social media, even sharing them physically with friends.
And finally, to close these five years with an exhibition to reconnect with our senses.

Galerie 21 welcomed me and supported me in this synthesis, surprisingly, like a common thread, their gallery slogan is: “Take the time to look.”
So together we created an environment to bring these moments to life around coffee, opportunities, smells, and sounds.” V. Galinier

As time and connections became almost tenuous, it was essential for the gallery to organize Vincent Galinier’s exhibition.
“Take the time to look” plays with and loses time, this time so precious that it could turn the world upside down.
We thought that unraveling this ball of time was a wonderful way to pull the thread to the Other, so…

In Toulouse, and more precisely in this tiny alleyway off the Trésorerie.
Place du Salin in the heart of the Carmes district Vincent Galinier’s LAB is transformed…
What if we moved from the present to the past, or from the future to the present?
What a strange idea…
We organize ourselves around time, by duration, space, or slice, it doesn’t matter.
Time is nothing more than a form of our internal sense; it determines external situations, to give them their rhythm.
Let’s imagine stops.
Opening a passage that would immobilize the torrential flow of the rest of things.

It’s 9:AM.
All around you, the “fluid mass” of time, of which Bergson speaks, never ceases to provoke you.
It advances and moves like a groundswell, shocking your sensibilities or exciting your senses.
But is it perfectly in its place?
Toulouse is waking up, and the life of things is falling into tune.
The sounds, the scent of roasted cherries, the colors mingling with the vapors…

It’s 9:00 in the morning.
We have stopped time.
As you push open the door to the gallery, an intangible feeling invades you.
There you are!
Between the future, the present, and the past, space has expanded for you, becoming infinite and essential for your escape.
We invite you to discover, every day at 9:00 a.m. Toulouse time, thanks to Vincent Galinier’s LAB.
A sensory experience, far from all technology, that will immerse you in a single encounter: that of your freedom.
The exhibition will run throughout the month of September.
Thursday to Saturday, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

It will be 9 a.m. in Toulouse at any time.

On September 20th at 4 p.m., the “Café ou T” show at the gallery allowed everyone to come and have a coffee and chat with the artist. This show is broadcasted on the Galerie 21 YouTube channel.
