The Galerie 127 in Marrakech presents Denis Dailleux and Alexandre de Mortemart through January 30, 2026.
Two perspectives on the city of Calcutta.
That of Denis Dailleux, who for the past ten years has travelled to the province of Tamil Nadu to photograph the cultivation of jasmine and tuberose flowers – an activity in the service of his other passion: flowers.
Since 2015, it is at Calcutta’s flower market that he regularly settles in to portray those who take turns from dawn to dusk in Mullick Ghat, the city’s largest wholesale market. A body of work in vivid colours.
And that of Alexandre de Mortemart who, for his part, lives there much of the year. He offers us a drained, de-coloured Calcutta, stripped of all picturesque effect, avoiding any form of miserabilism – even though stray dogs, debris or figures sleeping on a bench, and musicians from lower castes punctuate his wanderings.
