For the past five years I’ve been collecting photos of the squat La Miroiterie with the help of residents like Anso, Bernard, Pat Dub, Alexis, Gilles and its co-founder, Michel.
La Miroiterie is the oldest active squat in Paris. The world-renowned site, which has held hundreds of concerts since 1999, is one-of-a-kind in Paris. Eclectic and disturbing, it brings together the musical cultures of rock, punk, hardcore, metal, ska, psychobilly, Afro, etc., but also painting, sculpture and Brazilian dance. One meets all kinds here. All the regulars and residents fight to maintain this unadulterated creative space, condemning overpriced rent and the lack of adequate facilities.
Today, the building is about to collapse, literally as well as figuratively. Its residents now face imminent eviction.
