Some people know this photograph of Francis Giacobetti as a souvenir of their first erotic emotions. The stripped nude of actress Sylvia Kristel, taken by the French photographer and director, served as a poster for erotic cult film Emmanuelle, directed in 1974 by Just Jaeckin. The film was inspired by the eponymous novel written by Emanuelle Arsan.
The photograph taken in 1974, lot 18 of the sale organized by Artcurial, was sold for 36,400 €. It was estimated between € 8,000 and € 12,000. The sale of the photographs was a dispersion of the photographer himself. The sale totaled 320,000, double the estimate.
However, it is not the photograph of Emmanuelle’s poster that won the big prize, but Zebra 17, taken in the Parisian studio of the photographer in 1988, awarded for € 42,900.
