Rudi Frey : stereotypical photographer

Rudi Frey‘s photographs testify to the golden age of press photography. It was then the MAJOR medium of image reporting. But they also recall the fashion and glamor of the “Swinging Sixties” alongside the great investigative photo reports of regions of the world in crisis and conflicts characteristic of this period.

Which also cost the life of the creator. He grew up with his family in Salzburg, Austria after the war ended. After completing his studies, he left Austria to go to Paris and study cinema. He worked as a director of photography and for David Bailey the famous fashion photographer as  model and assistant.

From 1973, Rudi Frey worked in Milan for the magazine “Panorama” and later as a permanent correspondent for the magazine “Time” in Rome. In 2014, he succumbed to the long-term consequences of so-called Gulf War Syndrome. The exhibition is also a tribute to Antonioni: the title is that of one of his films. And the photographer was not unlike that of Blow Up.
