Festival de Delhi –Sumit Kathuria

Preview

The BW portraits of Sumit Kathuria on which are superimposed bar codes explore the theme of identity at a time when each indian is getting a unique identity number. A technical and political revolution for this country of one billion two hundred million inhabitants.

The systematic treatment of the portraits framed below the shoulders, the use of BW, the lighting showing only part of the face, the square format and the superimposition of bar codes create a series of identities distinctive and yet uniformed. All different (each have a bar code and an image) each are singular but also the same. As the mass consumption goods that for the last 15 years have invaded daily life in India. An equality of treatment made more significant since India is structured by a hierarchical and discriminatory system of castes.

Summit Kathuria was born in India in 1984 he studied sculpture , graphic design and is finishing a master in photography at the National Institute of Design of Ahmedabad (NID).
