The call for applications of the 12th edition of the Rencontres de Bamako, African Biennale of Photography, is open from March 20 to May 1, 2019. Photographers and video artists who wish to participate are invited to apply online on the platform of the Rencontres de Bamako.
Organized by the Ministry of Culture of Mali with the support of the Institut Français, the Rencontres de Bamako is the principal event dedicated to contemporary photography and new imagery in Africa.
Internationally renowned, the Rencontres de Bamako is a platform for discoveries, exchanges, and visibility. It is an essential venue for the promotion of African photographers, and a time of exchange with the Malian public and the professionals from around the world.
This 12th edition of the African Biennale of Photography, which was created in 1994, marks the celebration of its 25th anniversary. It will be held in Bamako from 30 November 2019 to 31 January 2020.
Lassana Igo Diarra, founder and Director of Galerie Medina (Mali) and Director of Balani’s Editions, is the General Delegate of the Rencontres de Bamako.
Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung, independent curator and founder of SAVVY Contemporary (Berlin, Germany), is the Artistic Director of the 12th edition of the Rencontres de Bamako.
The pan-African exhibition, at the heart of the event, is the result of a selection of African photographers and video artists. It is part of the general theme «STREAMS OF CONSCIOUSNESS» and will bring together African artists from the continent and its diasporas.
The open call for the participation of photographers and video artists in the Pan-African exhibition of the 12th edition of the Bamako Encounters is open from March 30 to June 15, 2019.
