L’ANGLE – Photo Gallery presents Où vont les rêves (Where Dreams Go) – Benjamin Juhel from August 22 to September 28.
“Because the desire for the ideal is the beginning of disenchantment, what remains are dreams, the desire for illusion, hope, and the will to create, to travel through our inner myths.”
Benjamin Juhel presents a new collection for the exhibition “Where Dreams Go,” composed of images selected from his work in recent years. A meditative and contemplative composition presents itself to us, evoking wandering, solitude, and the city at night.
Always distant and poetic, these series of images of a Californian city at night with its empty and silent streets, snowy Lapland landscapes in the heart of the polar night, and majestic Venetian architecture, arouse the desire to be transported to a more surreal, timeless world. These images were conceived in movement and with the desire to write our inner fictions.
They are beyond reality, they transcend what exists to offer a theatrical and sacred perspective. This collection is constructed like a navigation in the glow of chiaroscuro, twilight, shades of black and half-light, where the long term, solitude, and light are drawn like a nocturnal trajectory, a dream, an illusion. The photographer interprets the collective functions or images of cities to evoke our relationships to representations. He invites us to question them by creating poetic situations and images where the time of night brings silence and solitude into being.
Benjamin Juhel offers photographs with textures and lighting similar to painting and cinematography. The darkness of the images invites contemplation, to take the time to discover what is presented, allowing the gaze time to capture the details that appear when our eyes become accustomed to the shades of black.
