The Gaston Chérau archive is at the origin of “à fendre le cœur le plus dur” by Jérôme Ferrari and Oliver Rohe (Inculte, 2015, Actes Sud / Babel, 2017) and continued to inspire Jérôme Ferrari for his latest book (2018). “Réveiller l’archive d’une guerre coloniale (Awakening the archive)” by Pierre Schill gathers and analyzes for the first time this collection of documents, a rare testimony to the beginnings of photojournalism, confrontation to war and abroad.
