Power of Desire is Jetmir Idrizi first photography book, immerses us in the vibrant queer scenes of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. A project which started in 2016.
“More than a testimony, my photographic work reveals territories of emancipation where celebration and self-affirmation become acts of resistance. From nightclubs to carnivals, drag shows to the ballroom scene, I traced a visual map of desire in motion—an intimate and collective geography of freedom. Between sweat, glitter, and bass beats, bodies are liberated, intertwined, and transformed. In the darkness of clubs, the party is both a release and a manifesto. But this energy extends beyond the night—into LGBTQIA+ protests, carnival, and intimate spaces.
Last year with this project I had my first solo exhibition at the National Art Gallery of Kosovo. Nevertheless, I have faced many challenges, finding a publisher willing to support this project. I am turning to crowdfunding as a way to finally share this project and ask for your generous help to publish my first photography book.
In a global context where the far right continues to gain ground, the rights of LGBTQIA+ individuals, particularly transgender people, are violently threatened. This photography book thus resonates with a new urgency. It stands as a site of visibility and memory, affirming that the freedom to be who we are and to desire without boundaries cannot be erased.”
