On the occasion of PhotoSaintGermain and PARIS PHOTO, DartBLAY a gallery in Paris since 2011, presents SI LOIN, SI PROCHE, an exhibition displaying the photographic diary of Corinne Vachon, around the world.
Photographer for fifteen years, Corinne Vachon’s work is centered around the discovery of isolated tribes in remote regions of the Middle East and South America. Thanks to the help of her guide, she immerses herself into the life of indigenous communities for sometimes several months, giving essence to a rare sincerity and authenticity in her documentation.
Marie Darblay has co-curated with Mia Franzosi, a selection of Corinne’s photographs from Afghanistan, Russia, Peru, Ladakh, Bolivia and Kyrgyzstan.
Corinne Vachon’s touching images tell us the story of children “SI LOIN” (SO FAR) who became, through her gaze, children “SI PROCHE” (SO CLOSE) .
SO FAR, SO CLOSE, takes the viewer on an immersive journey in the daily life, habitat and surrounding landscape of all these different communities around the world.
“There is what I see and what I want to show” declares Corinne Vachon about how she translates her experiences using her imagination. She chooses to place her models in front of her lens but at the edge of reality. Without disguise and blurring the lines, she constructs a gigantic universe which dresses and conceals the naked truth.
The photographer shares with us here, an unpublished anthropological testimony.
She is on a mission to create a memento of memories of these far away populations. Gathering these images has become her philosophy of life
“Witnessing my time, telling stories, preserving the collective memory of humanity is essential in my life. I have immense pleasure in sharing my experiences through the prism of my lens.”
