Deauville 2012 –Tania and Vincent

Preview

Tania and Vincent are a photography couple. They met at the Ecole Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne in Switzerland, where they were trained in photography and graphic design. They have lived and worked together in Paris for the past five years. They work predominantly in still life. The composition of the image is no longer simply a photograph of nature frozen in time. It becomes a surrealist mis-en-scène made of collages with objects of different scales. The result is a graphic and disorienting trompe-l’oeil with the multiple dimensions of the image at play. The second and third dimensions blend to the point where the viewer can no longer tell them apart. With this commission from the city of Deauville, Tania and Vincent are offering us a new vision through their compositions made of the objects that tourists buy as souvenirs, but also through the incredible objects that a local collector has accumulated over the years.

The pictures are treated like stories where each photograph is a chapter. The images aren’t assembled in post-production, but through montages they do themselves in the studio.
