The Feast of the Holy Cross
In May, northeastern Mexico celebrates the Day of the Holy Cross, a celebration centered around the Catholic religion. The city of Tula, in Tamaulipas, Mexico, is surrounded by hills, and on each hill, according to religious beliefs, there is a cross to ward off evil. On the eve of May 3rd, residents of each neighborhood place crosses to pray and celebrate Mass. Later, they raise the crosses again, accompanied by dancing and music, to lay a wreath of flowers at dusk.
