Christie’s Paris presents the first part of some thirty historic prints from the collection of Roger Thérond. A second group of photographs from the same collection will be exhibited in Arles, at the Hôtel Nord-Pinus, on the occasion of the Rencontres d’Arles.
To celebrate the bicentenary of photography, Christie’s exceptionally presents a selection of works from the prestigious collection of Roger Thérond, former editor-in-chief of Paris Match, which the house will disperse on the 13th and 14th of November in a live sale, and online from the 6th to the 17th of November. These photographs are among the most significant in the history of the medium. Presented alongside the Rencontres de la photographie d’Arles, where another part of this legendary and hitherto closely guarded collection will be unveiled, the Paris exhibition bears witness to the scope and coherence of this exceptional ensemble. From the great names of photography to images that have become icons, the collection traces the evolution of the medium throughout the twentieth century.
In Paris as in Arles, these exhibitions celebrate a collection patiently assembled over the course of a lifetime devoted to the image.
