Château de Tours : Sandra Daveau : Noces de Pigment / Pigment Bride

Preview

The Château de Tours presents the exhibition Noces de Pigment / Pigment Bride by Sandra Daveau. She describes her work in these words:

Embryonic views, wombs, cocoons, female nests, human drop, ash lift.

My brush-women evolve in circular shapes creating living paintings whose only trace is photography.

Sprinkled, sown from above with various layers of flour, ashes, coal, clay and pigments, they then take on a pictorial color. Their femininity is revealed as the scenes progress, sometimes romantic, sometimes dramatic, resolutely drunk with freedom.

Noces de pigment was created at Point Haut in Saint Pierre-des-Corps in a spectacular device 15 meters high on a 12×15 meter concrete slab surrounded by black curtains.

Supported by Compagnie Off over a period of 2 years, the 4 sessions of this Touraine creation brought together around a hundred people, including 65 participants and 45 donors and patrons.

Sandra Daveau

Born in 1974 in Tours, Sandra Daveau is a self-taught photographer. She has been exhibiting these images for thirty years.

At the age of 23, freshly graduated from art school, she set off alone on the roads of the world. She travelled for three consecutive years, camera slung over her shoulder, with the growing dream of making photography her profession.

Back in Paris and then in Tours, she made her come true and started to publish her reportages in the press magazine. She participated in various renowned photographic festivals and among them “Voix Off” at the Rencontres d’Arles in 2004. In parallel with her commissioned work in the institutional and private spheres, she has always pursued her artistic research.

Noces de Pigment, which reconnects with painting, marks the transition from reportage to staging.
