Boston – Harold Feinstein–A Retrospective

Preview

Panopticon Gallery announces the release of Harold Feinstein: A Retrospective published by Nazraeli Press with Introduction by Phillip Prodger. The gallery is hosting an exhibition to coincide with the book.

Harold Feinstein was born in Coney Island in 1931. He began his career in photography in 1946 at the age of 15 and within four short years, Edward Steichen, an early supporter, had purchased his work for the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). He joined the Photo League at 17 and became a prominent figure in the vanguard of the early New York City street photography scene where he exhibited at Helen Gee’s Limelight Gallery and was a designer for historic Blue Note Records.

This exhibition and monograph showcases and revisits some of Feinstein’s most beloved images: from the boardwalk at Coney Island and the streets of New York, to his tour of duty as a grunt in Korea. These photographs span more than 50 years.

Harold Feinstein: A Retrospective includes quotes by Howard Greenberg, Mary Ellen Mark, Linda Benedict Jones, Mason Klein, A.D. Coleman, Alan Perlman, and Senator John F. Kerry.
