Bonne Espérance Gallery : Lee-Ann Olwage : Celebration

Preview

Bonne Espérance Gallery presents Celebration, the first exhibition in Paris of Lee-Ann Olwage, a South African photographer who received the prestigious Contemporary African Photography award in 2022 for her series entitled The Right to Play.

Born in 1986 in Durban, South Africa, Lee-Ann Olwage is an image storyteller. Her work deals with identity, collaboration and celebration.
She has a particular interest in photography as a mode of co-creation. With her elaborate long-term projects, Lee-Ann aims to create a space where the people she collaborates with play an active part in the creation of her images; as a revealer of their history and their feelings and a festive means of asserting their claims.

3 emblematic series of her work will be presented by Bonne Espérance Galerie from September 1 to October 28, 2022.
#blackdragmagic, claims of queer and trans black beauty from the townships of Cape Town.
The Dance, a visual exploration of celebrations organized for young graduates from disadvantaged neighborhoods in major South African cities.
The Right To Play, for which Lee-Ann won the 2022 Contemporary African Photography award.
