Blake Little sent us his latest series, Coachella Valley Anthropogenic, accompanied by his text.
Since 2022, I’ve been spending much of my time in Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley. The power and proximity of the desert have drawn me toward landscape photography, resulting in Coachella Valley Anthropogenic—my first landscape series. While this genre is new for me, I feel I’ve discovered a personal and distinct voice with this work.
In the Coachella Valley we live under rock formations and our homes encroach on the desert. Mountains rise straight up from backyards, businesses & highways. The power of this overwhelming closeness to the landscape generates a real emotional response for me and inspires this series. Organically influenced by the 1975 exhibition New Topographics, the photographs hold the optimism of nature’s beauty, along with the real threat to the landscape and warns us that climate change is here.
