“I wanted to hold this exhibition to put the spotlight on this fascinating phenomenon, which is relatively unknown in France. Yet there are plenty of very passionate fans, sharing their enthusiasm on the web. It is more than just a hobby – there is often an artistic involvement; it could even be called a way of life. The dolls are so sophisticated that their somewhat disturbing gaze immediately drew me in. They seem to give off some kind of aura. You can’t not be affected by them.
For this project, I invited three artistic photographers I like to join me. They have a highly aesthetic approach to their images and add a touching dose of truth to them.
The printing techniques used for the images were selected to reflect the different atmospheres: luminous, shiny Plexiglas for the images from Hélène Veuilleux, canvas prints for the work by Lou Vandelle and matt prints on Dibond to illustrate the tableaux I put together alone or with Julien de Jesus.”
