Ayako Takaishi: Printing Par Excellence

Preview

Ayako Takaishi’s photographs are doubly pleasing through both subject matter and it’s representation. To fully appreciate them, her prints need to be physically seen. Ayako Takaishi is a photographer whose pictures one cannot be satisfied viewing by just scrolling through them on a computer screen. The true revelation of these images arises in subtile and delicate nuances that the photographer patiently elaborates in the red light of a traditional lab. Ayako Takaishi’s work is inseparable from her film footage, something second nature for her, which is then transposed on the photosensitive surface of photographic paper. Depending on the themes, she chooses the surface and the tonality of the papers which will end up being the most evocative. Each print is unique, the fruit of a particular alchemy where light, time, and material are combined.
