Richard Aujard died a few months ago. His 2 sons decided to bring his archives to life. Art Photo Expo, one of his long-standing galleries, pays homage to him with this digital portfolio.
He recently passed away at the age of 55. We decided to pay tribute to him because he had placed his trust in us for many years. He is one of the greatest portrait photographers of his generation. A friend of the stars, he photographed many celebrities but also anonymous underprivileged people whom he immortalized in his photographs, documentaries and books. His 2 sons, César and Shanon as well as Thomas Consani, his printer for more than 20 years, will bring the images of his archives to life and we are honored to continue this adventure with them.

Child of the Basque country, motocross champion in his youth, eternal teenager with a clever eye, extremely sensitive with the appearance of a tough guy, Richard Aujard had forged over time a universe apart, which distinguished him from others. photographers. “Sophistication makes me uncomfortable, I like both strength and weakness in human beings”, he said about his work, often published in Paris Match, but also in Photo, Première, Liberation , Les Inrocks or Vanity Fair ….
Thomas Consani – The craftsman of Black and White photography:
In the digital age, he is one of the last film printers. With more than 30 years of experience and 22 years alongside Richard, he sculpts the light with his hands in his darkroom. “Reading a photo is like reading a sheet of music, you have to respect the composer who composed it, neither too slow, nor too fast, nor too strong with the print, neither too dark, nor too light, nor too gray, you have to become the photographer when he took his picture with his state of mind and his emotions. ” Thomas Consani
