Yves Saint Laurent An Intimate Look: A Creative Universe Revealed presents a glimpse into the couturier’s world in the final phase of his career, between 1989 and his final collection in 2002, captured by photographer Carlos Muñoz-Yagüe, son of the longtime studio director of the Yves Saint Laurent house, Anne-Marie Muñoz.
“Fashions fade, style is eternal” – Yves Saint Laurent
The book offers a multifaceted exploration of life at the haute couture house: from informal portraits of Yves Saint Laurent at work in his studio to photographs of the “petites mains,” the skilled army of artisans whose work is rarely documented. The house’s world-renowned top models are also featured, captured during pre-collection fittings in the house’s salons and in the electric backstage moments before the fashion shows.
Private archival documents—letters, documents, drawings, and everyday objects that situate the protagonists and provide context for the unique position young Carlos enjoyed as a privileged spectator in this exceptional world are also published here for the first time.
A tribute to the iconic house of Yves Saint Laurent, Intimate Gaze: A Creative Universe Revealed is a book for lovers of fashion and photography.
Featuring contributions from photography specialist Philippe Garner, whose introduction helps to better understand this body of images by contextualizing them within the world of fashion and photography history.
