We featured this series in May 2014 for our “The Eye of Readers” weekend section. This year in Arles, La Galerie Fontaine Obscure, based in Aix-en-Provence, as part of the OFF program, will exhibit Hélène Veilleux’s series 38e parallèle nord, which addresses North Korea, in Atelier C on Rue Molière in Arles city center.
I am a tourist, forehead pressed against the bus window, eyes wide open to capture every inch of the city.
Clinging to my camera, accumulating postcards’s images with the secret hope of finally confronting the reality of this city nestled beyond the 38th parallel north with the sum of the images, rumors and fantasies laying inside me.
But I’m a tourist, and the bus already restarts …
