Franca Wohlt : Reduit
During World War II, Switzerland established in secret a huge underground system of bunkers. Today privatised the so-called Reduit still exist, although privatization has begun due to high maintenance costs and years of sitting virtually abandoned. Franca Wohlt’s long term project beginning in 2009, deals with the possibility of converting public shelter for use as a private niche. At the same time, it documents the preoccupation with potential emergency situations that led to the construction of numerous bunkers in Switzerland. Today, they remain as historical relics.
