Winners of the 2013 BMW Residence, exhibited from July 7th through September 7th at the Rencontres d’Arles, Mazaccio and Drowilal are also forerunners of the latest Arles trend: the cat (or dog) bag.
Worn by Elise Mazac at the opening of the Wild Style exhibition at the Cloître Saint Trophime, the small sack in the shape of a pet looks like it was taken straight out of the couple’s imagination and could be part of their series. All the ingredients are there: consumer objects, animals, the superficial, the offbeat, artefact, humor and surprise. It’s a veritable photographic manifesto worn across one’s shoulder.
Produced by an unknown designer—there’s not even a label inside—the sacks are available, as bags or wallets, cats or dogs, in a little store near the Place Voltaire in Arles.
