An ABC for Jazz Lovers by Pascal Kober

Preview

Whether it‘s under spotlights or in the privacy of a dressing room, in rehearsal rooms or in the thick of major international tours, Pascal Kober’s pictures reveal a special way of looking at things, which also plays cleverly with words. As a French photojournalist and member of the magazine Jazz Hot, he has witnessed the developments of an extraordinarily rich and diverse century-old form of music for several decades now. Love of the blue note, emotion and complicity mark these commented slices of life, these letters and these faces, thanks to the exceptionally close rapport he established with the musicians. From A as in Africa (and the Americas!) to Z as in Zoom, 123 colour and black & white photographs form an ABC steeped in humanity.

Make way for the pleasure of an encounter consisting of images and music with a play-list of titles of the great jazz standards played in venues. To extend discoveries, a documentary, shot with the complicity of Pascal Kober, takes us in his footsteps, as close as you can get to the photojournalist’s work. At the heart of the show, a piano available to the public will offer amateur pianists a chance to play the blue note…

A book, with a foreword by Marcus Miller who was, among other things, Miles Davis’s travelling companion in the 1980s, accompanies and expands this photo exhibition of Pascal Kober’s works, organized by the Musée de l’Ancien Évêché in Grenoble (Isère, France).
