Image Festival Year 3 – Macro & Me – A Milestone Edition
This time of year, spring isn’t the only event Jordanians have to look forward to. It’s also the season when exhibitions, projections and other activities pop up throughout Amman, the capital of the Hashemite kingdom.
For the third year in a row, Amman is celebrating photography throughout March with the Image Festival. Created by the French Institute in partnership with the gallery Darat Al Tasweer, the Greater Amman Municipality and, for the first time, the Rencontres d’Arles, the Image Festival is one of the most important photography events in the Arab world. With no less than 25 artists exhibiting, the program was packed, and the festivities full of color. Throughout the ancient Roman city, galleries, institutions and public spaces hosted openings, workshops and competitions, especially in the district of Jabal Al Weibdeh, where the French Institute is located.
As with every edition of the festival, several French photographers were invited to participate in this growing international event. Along with the Jordanian photographers exhibiting this year, Thierry Boët, Vincent Catala, Olivier Culmann and Jean Gaumy each presented a series related to the festival theme, “Macro & Me,” which, according to the festival’s director, provides the opportunity to explore ideas that we tend to overlook despite their decisive influence on our relationship to the world.
