Photography Festival Les Rencontres d’Aubergine 2025 – Lucile Béranger

The Villeneuve-Les-Avignon contemporary festival ‘Les rencontres d’Aubergine’ is all over Villeneuve-Les-Avignon from 5 to 26 April 2025. It features works by Lucile Béranger, who is also a contributor to our newspaper.

‘I grew up in a very old house. The three attics of this old farmhouse were filled with old furniture, books from another era and trunks full of family documents and photos. Old photos, with no names, no context, no identity.

I’ve come across photos like these in flea markets in the South West of France, which I’ve been browsing nonchalantly for the last few years. Some of them have information on them, others none at all. So my imagination tries to put the story, the context, the first names, the family links back in place. For the last 3 years, I’ve been illustrating some of them. I like to imagine that I’m bringing a bit of life back into a story. I play with colours and characters.

Today I’m exhibiting my photos as part of Rencontres d’Aubergine. This is the seventh edition of this festival of contemporary art in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, held in different venues across the town.
