Balnéothérapie is a photographic book by Alexandre Morelli that offers a colourful plunge into our seaside leisure activities.
Balnéothérapie explores the benefits of sunbathing, sea bathing, and above all… holidays.
Made up of a series of images begun in 2023, the book questions our relationship to seaside resorts. How do you photograph these tourist places that fill up with the rhythm of weekends, summers, and holidays? How do you show the way we spend our time when we go to the water’s edge to soak up the sun? The book opens with a young woman sunbathing on the sand as the beach is only just waking, and closes later, under the disco ball of a nightclub. Between these two moments, a succession of summer stories made of gestures, details, and small rituals unfolds for the reader. The whole is built like a time loop, where each scene seems to bring the next, and where the day could begin again endlessly: « I wanted each photograph to follow on from the previous one, as if you were gently pulling on the thread of a holiday memory and the whole summer came with it ».
Balnéothérapie is a photographic stroll that immerses us in what is most universal about holidays: letting go, warmth, boredom, and the repetition of simple pleasures.
This photography book is self-published.
