Alexander Straulino: –La Femme d’Argent

Preview

In his new project “La Femme d’Argent” (The silver woman) Berlin based photographer Alexander Straulino reflects on the sculptural quality of bodies . He is using Polaroid technique in a very experimental and unusual way showing almost scientific results while playing with the genre of nude photography with sensual-aesthetic sensation.

In its aesthetics the pictures occasionally recall the movement studies of the photo pioneer Etienne-Jules Marey. The statue-like appearance of the body is highlighted by positioning the model in front of a neutral background. Similar to antique olympic sculptures Straulino manages to eliminate the static of the body – which is fixated in a picture – and gives it a vivid dynamic due to dancing movements and enhanced by the double exposure of the Polaroids using two different positions.

For his series Straulino used various old camera-types with some bugs that lead to unexpected results in the development-process, letting the photos appear very abstract and vintage.

Alexander Straulino works for internationally renown magazines like Vogue and Harpers Bazaar. While focussing on the über-perfect presentation of the model in his contracted work as a beauty photographer, in “La Femme d’Argent” the body is displayed in his entire fragility and naturalness.
