London based Albumen Gallery is launching its representation of Shamani Surendran with the photographer’s latest series ‘The Last Bird Song’.
The Last Bird Song represents a meditation on environmental damage told through three recurring themes: the bird, the leafless tree, and the fallen leaf. Across this series of photographic based works, she returns to these symbols, using them to ask what it means to witness nature’s decline – and what we lose when memory replaces presence.
London based Shamani Surendran describes herself as a nature photographer. Trees represent a recurring theme in Shamani Surendran’s work inspired by “a sense of connection” she feels when she is around trees. For Shamani Surendran nature photography captures more than just beauty – it preserves fleeting moments of harmony that remind us of what is at stake. Each image of a forest, a river, or a quiet mountain path is a call to protect the fragile balance that sustains life. By seeing the world through the lens of nature, we are urged not only to admire it, but also to safeguard it for future generations.
