The Hulett Collection, located at Booth C2, will present a solo artist exhibition from Oklahoma-based artist, Andy Mattern, with a selection of works from his ongoing Ghost series.
Andy Mattern’s Ghost series begins with accidental images discovered on the backs of long-forgotten photographs—faint mirror impressions left when platinum prints were stored in contact with other papers for decades. Under the right conditions, the chemistry of platinum can transfer a ghostly trace of one photograph onto another surface, creating unexpected apparitions that exist outside the photographer’s control. Mattern has spent several years “ghost hunting,” rephotographing these chance images and returning them to their original material form as hand-coated platinum prints. The resulting works embrace the medium’s unpredictability, revealing layered traces of portraits, graphics, and text while suggesting that photographs, even when unseen, continue quietly reproducing themselves.
