Michael Dawson Gallery, Los Angeles, will be showing a large group of vintage and later prints highlighting the career of Max Yavno who was the first photographer to live in Los Angeles and record the city in a documentary style. The exhibition will feature work made in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles between 1938 and 1980. Yavno was president of the Photo League in New York between 1938 and 1939. Also on view will be photography inspired by California by Ansel Adams and Robert Frank as well as photographers who spent significant time in California including Minor White and Karl Struss.
