In 2004, after 12 years spent working in fashion and advertising, Sophie moved to Paris. Since then, she has devoted her energy to developing a personal approach to photography.
For the past few years, her work has taken the form of carefully cropped installations on walls throughout Paris. Merging the image with its medium is important not just materially, but also compositionally and conceptually.
“Raising public awareness about our natural heritage is the first step in change. My work Affichage Sauvage works to raise that awareness. Since 2010 I have been posting my photographs of animals in the streets of Paris. I had previously exhibited my ‘bestiary’ in galleries, festivals and museums of natural history. The public found themselves faced with the portrait of an animal looking back at them, questioning them, but in a private space of reflection. The street brought a new dimension, allowing me to amplify the message. The animal had taken possession of the space, finding its place in an urban setting, and going on questionning, but this time it’s not up to the visitor to set the terms for their interaction, but the street..”
