The 2017 jury of the Leica Oskar Barnack Prize has announced their winners.
Terje Abusdal wins the Grand Prize Leica Oskar Barnack Award for his series “Slash and Burn“, on the ethnic minority Skogfinns, living in Finland. His work deals with documentary photography as fiction, “to tell a poetic and mysterious story“.
Sergey Melnitchenko returns with the Leica Newcomer Prize, intended for photographers under 25 years of age. His series “Behind the Scenes” was performed behind the scenes of a club in Hong Kong. His raw, nocturnal and dark photography is a superb discovery.
The two winners will be exhibited at Paris Photo (November 9-12, 2017). The ten finalists of the Prize will be exhibited at the Leica Photographic Space (November 6 – December 12, 2017).
