Wahter Studio : INDEX Magazine (1996–2005) – Retrospective

Preview

Wahter Studio presents the first retrospective dedicated to INDEX Magazine (1996–2005), staged during Paris Design Week. Founded in New York by artist Peter Halley and publisher Bob Nickas, INDEX became one of the most daring and influential cultural publications of its era, blending contemporary art, fashion, music, and film in an unfiltered, conversational style.

The exhibition brings together original works produced for the magazine by world-renowned photographers — including Wolfgang Tillmans, Juergen Teller, and Leeta Harding — alongside archival spreads, covers, and rarely seen issues.

A Reading Room will provide visitors with direct access to select editions, featuring groundbreaking interviews such as Alexander McQueen interviewed by Björk, Hedi Slimane by Klaus Biesenbach, and Werner Herzog by Doug Aitken.

Conceived and curated by Wahter Studio in collaboration with INDEX co-founder Peter Halley, the retrospective reintroduces the magazine’s legacy to a new generation while highlighting its enduring influence on today’s creative landscape.
