Vienna PhotoBook Festival 2015

Preview

After two years the ViennaPhotoBookFestival is not only the biggest photobook festival but also the best photobook festival. With 80 booksellers from rare to independent, to young photographers from Russia and Eastern Europe as well as many photography schools and universities we could provide a large variety of photobooks to collectors and the 5000 visitors of the festival in 2015.

Excellent lectures by Colin Pantall, Olivia Arthur, Nicolo Degiorgis, Andreas H. Bitesnich, Ania Nalecka, Michael Mack, Michel Auer, Walter Bergmoser and Peter Sramek had a great response from the audience. And of course the talk by Gerry Badger with American star photographer William Klein was the highlight of the festival with about 300 visitors in a new location – the Ankersaal – at the bread factory. Behind the stage Peter Coeln made a guide tour for the reviewers of the ViennaPhotoBookReview through his photography collection. The ViennaPhotoBookReview took place for the second year. 30 out of 100 photobook dummies were selected and presented to 15 experts like Gerry Badger, Manfred Heiting, Klaus Kehrer, etc. in a 20 minutes talk on Friday before the festival. This year the ViennaPhotoBookAward goes to  Irish photographer Mark Duffy for his book VOTE NO.1. It will be published by AnzenbergerEdition in autumn 2015.

Beside the festival there have been two exhibition connected to the event: The Rodchenko School of Photography and Multimedia had a show at the gallery Hilger Next and the AnzenbergerMasterclass graduates were exhibiting at the Loftcity project space. The Brotfabrik Wien (bread factory) where AnzenbergerGallery and OstLicht.Gallery for Photography are based and where the event takes place, still has a lot of capacity  to grow. We are looking forward to a great  festival in 2016! The date will be June 11/12, 2016!
