The fourth edition of the PORTRAIT(S) festival inVichy opened . Until September 4th Vichy is an outpost of today’s photography for a season and is presenting to the public some exhibitions centered exclusively around the art of the portrait. This new edition is showing nine artists whose exhibitions are taking place simultaneously in the city centre and outside of it, in the open air. L’Oeil de la Photographie brings you the work of one photographer from the programme every day. Today, focus on « Sara » by Julia Gat.
“(…)There is an adventurous quality to the subjects, as they move through the landscape with an inquisitive drive. The lush colors of the landscape, the softness of the light, and the intimate nature of the portraits embrace this sense of wonder, leaving behind “objective”, dialectical images in favor of emotion and subjective experience.
Henry Amistadi, The Future is Now This project, which started in 2010, brings a lively, colourful way of looking at everyday life by concentrating on childhood and adolescence.
Immersing herself in the daily comings and goings of her friends, brothers and sisters, her eye constantly on the look-out, Julia highlights the relationships they have with those around them and their environment. She strives to capture so-called banal moments, be they at the beach or when travelling, when they become strangely special, releasing an atmosphere of playful exploration, a feeling of freedom. By going beyond the documentary, Julia Gat’s photographs address the very nature of youth, putting together a floating universe of waking dreams.
