Toulouse, Lars Tunbjörk: 3 séries photos

Preview

Le Château d’Eau de Toulouse is presenting until March 17th three series of photographs by the celebrated Swedish photographer Lars Tunbjörk, a member of the Agence Vu’.

I love Böras is composed of images selected from a larger work mainly produced in the artist’s hometown, Böras, a medium-sized city surviving in a forest in southeastern Sweden. While retaining some empathy for his fellow citizens, Tunbjörk’s photographs, with their wobbly, loaded frames and bright colors, depict a disenchanted world where the ridiculous rivals runaway consumerism.

With Office, he explores the contemporary workplace in offices in Sweden, the United States and Japan. He uses the flash, alternating between close-ups and wide-angle shots. Here, his visual style is stripped down, the color subsides. He adopts a generally central perspective like a form of neutrality, while denouncing with nonchalance working situations as nightmarish and absurd.

Vinter is his latest work. Tunbjörk traveled Sweden in wintertime for three years. His vision conditioned by his perception of solitude is a far cry from pictures of immaculate snowy landscapes, clean and cozy interiors. The kitsch and the incongruous, waiting and struggling against weariness, remain the photographer’s favorite themes. His pictures with sad and dirty tones appear alongside others with slightly acid ones, translating the feeling of the slowness of an endless winter.
