The Hulett Collection shares a selection of new works including two hand-made collage works by Viki Kollerová. In these pieces, the figure is interrupted by landscape and material history — roots reaching through sand, the mirrored grain of walnut veneer — creating compositions that are spare but carry weight.
In In the Eyes of Tamarisk, the upper image captures the exposed roots of a tamarisk tree searching for water in the Portuguese dunes. Beneath it, a self-portrait taken in the artist’s studio becomes the ground on which the landscape presses. In A Piece of Family History, the layered surface of a book-matched walnut veneer — from a mid-century table designed in Czechoslovakia by Jindřich Halabala and once belonging to her great-grandmother — meets a self-portrait made in the attic of that same home. In both works, the body becomes a site of memory. Nature and inheritance are not backdrops but active forces — covering, revealing, and reshaping the figure.
