Born in England, raised in South Africa, Matthew Brookes first discovered his passion for photography in Paris. The allure of the city had a profound influence on the aesthetic of his work.
Matthew likes to find the emotion in his subjects before he photographs them… Its about scratching below the surface and finding the real person in each portrait he creates.
His portraits feature in a wide range of publications such as Vanity Fair, Vogue, British and Spanish Vogue, L’Uomo Vogue, The New York Times’ T Magazine, Cap 74024 and Interview.
Aside from working with celebrities and models Matthew also enjoys photographing sports men and women and dancers as he is fascinated in the human form and movement.
Splitting his time between Paris and New York, he also works closely with a variety of luxury brands Giorgio Armani, Burberry, Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Berluti, Dior, David Yurman and Zegna.
In 2015 Matthew published “LES DANSEURS”, a series of photographs of the ballet dancers of the Paris Opera, in between endless training and rehearsals.
His second monograph “INTO THE WILD” published by Damiani, is a vibrant celebration of surf life, a story of van culture along the California coast. It is being released on March 17th in Europe and on May 24th in the US.
