Lukas Wassmann is a Swiss artist and photographer living between Zurich and Berlin.
His practice addresses nature and the intimacy of being, looking at individual and social rituals through projects spanning from photography series, portraits, sculpture, woodcraft and carpentry.
Lukas was a carpenter before studying photography at FAS Berlin Photography School and at the Zürich University of Arts. He started his career in photography working as an assistant to various photographers in Milan, Zürich, and New York.
The world of Lukas Wassmann combines high fashion and rusticity, creating a style that is both unique and offbeat.
Out of the studio, Lukas shoots his series mostly outdoors, in his native mountain, in villages, in traditional cottages… He often juxtaposes luxury moments with rural, traditional, “everyday” scenes.
His imagery exudes a sense of play and fun, as Lukas injects humour and adventure into situations that could easily be perceived as ordinary.
With Lukas Wassmann, animals wear luxury bags, models pose with animals… as with Valentino, whom he posed in costume in a rustic interior surrounded by sheep and dogs.
His commercial work includes collaborations with Acne, Adidas, Dior, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Moncler, Kanye West, Nike, The Attico, Victoria Beckham, Crocs, Moon Boot, On Running, Off-white, Ssense and BMW…
Lukas was featured in magazines such as Another, Apartamento, Purple, Art Review, Interview, Pin-up, Carcy, 032c, Garage, Vogue Ukraine, Spike Art and Masses…
His first monograph “’L”, won the Swiss Design Award in 2013.
He later published “W” – Edition Patrick Frey 2018 – a book where intimate snapshots and self-portraits interleaves with pictures of arranged nature, buildings and people, home-made furniture, documentary and commercial fashion photography.
