Today, the photographer Stéphanie Sinclair inaugurates the Arche du Photojournalisme in Paris with her exhibition Too Young To Wed. L’Arche du Photojournalisme is a new exhibition space located on the roof of the Ark of La Défense, one of the most famous building in the financial disctrict nearby Paris. Its terrace was redesigned and is now opened again to the public. The exhibition space occupies 1200m2, while a restaurant, a 360° bridge and bookstore occupy the rest of the roof.
Jean-François Leroy, director of the Arche du Photojournalisme, selected 150 photographs and six filmed interviews with young girls from different countries. Too Young To Wed seeks to understand the marriage of children and / or adolescents at an age where their free will is not complete. Marriage is then decided by the families, for economic, religious or cultural reasons. The series received three World Press Photo and three Gold Visas. It was exhibited at the United Nations and at the Whitney Museum Biennale (New York, 2010).
Stéphanie Sinclair is a photographer born in Miami in 1973. She has documented the Iraqi and Afghan conflicts, before devoting herself to her Too Youg To Wed project for fifteen years. This project has evolved into an NGO, as well as a documentary for National Geographic (Child Brides).
