Special Books : Pier Paolo Pasolini and Philippe Séclier, la longue route de sable

Preview

The complete version of Pier Paolo Pasolini’s La Longue Route de Sable (The Long Sandy Road), published for the first time 2005 by Éditions Xavier Barral, is being reissued in a new format. Pasolini’s story is accompanied by the original 1959 typescript, rediscovered by the publisher, along with photographs by Philippe Séclier, who followed in the Italian poet’s footsteps along the Italian coast.

In late summer 1959, behind the wheel of his Fiat Millecento, Pasolini embarked on a journey along the Italian coast from Ventimiglia to Trieste, which would inspire his story The Long Sandy Road (La lunga strada di sabbia). Forty years later, Philippe Séclier recreated the journey to discover “what Pasolini saw, heard and felt.” In this book, Séclier takes us along the Italian coast through documents, manuscripts, letters and his own photographs, which accompany Pasolini’s story. It feels as though these two Italies, separated only by time, were one.
