One of the most interesting artists of the moment and one of the most influential figures in the art world come together to curate this new issue Matador O dedicated to Iceland, where geology and climate are extremely important to reflect on the climate both in its physical and emotional aspect.
Roni Horn, recent winner of the Joan Miró Prize IV, has been directly involved in the content selection and design supervision of the magazine, which she has divided into two sections.
Vesuvius At Home deals with physical and geological time through image of volcano. Dieter Roth turns the volcanic island of Surtsey into a steaming plate of food; works of the Mexican painter Dr. Atl, obsessed with the Paricutin volcano are included and Horn’s herself, where in Herðubreið at Home she reflects on the presence of “The Queen of the Mountains” in the life of Icelanders.
Climate is the subject of an emotional reflection in The Weather Reports You, which contains Horn’s autobiographical text, My Oz; photographs of the series and You are the weather and The weather reports you; the transcript of the radio show The Idea of North of Glenn Gloud and a chapter of The Worst Journey in the World, the shocking story of Captain Scott’s expedition to the South Pole in 1910.
The magazine Matador O is accompanied by the Artist Book of Roni Horn, which includes 14 previously unpublished photographs of the Mother, Wonder series, with the collaboration of the Banco Santander Foundation. Roni Horn wine is a unique red from the winery Quinta da Pellada of the Portuguese region of Dão, made by Alvaro Castro of which only 3000 numbered bottles have been produced.
