Safaa Mazirh, Moroccan photographer, born in 1989, self-taught, is in the spotlight, for the first time in Spain, as part of an exhibition curated by Natalia Bento Rodriguez, “DIDASCALIAS DEL MOVIMIENTO”, from June 1st to 30th 2019 .
The exhibition includes photographs of the first series “WITHOUT TITLE”, presented in major events such as the Month of Photography in Paris, “Contemporary Morocco” at the Institute of the Arab World, The Biennial of Dakar, Africa Capitals , 1/54 Art fair in London and Paris Photo 2018.
The works of the Amazigh series were presented as part of a collective exhibition at Boston University and a part was acquired by the Fitchburg Art Museum.
Currently, in the spotlight, at the House of Photography of Lille (until June 2), the work of the artist has inspired the following text to French art critic Pascal Therme:
“The work of Safaa Mazirh imposed itself both formally and artistically and by its creative power. … Locatelli Nathalie curator of the exhibition, is very proud to exhibit these photographs, where the body unfolds in a sort of mysterious trance and where it depicts a vocabulary made of attitudes and mysteries.
Artistic vocabulary carrying the dream of the self beyond the dark matter of the nightmare, reinventing painting and crossing the obsession in a search for movements and, dances, proven sensualities and nocturnal enjoyment.
Between the silence of the shadows and the dream of the big night, shared and popular, is the tactile muse at the time of intimacy, of the exorcised violence in a pagan ritual made of spells and stars, the shadow of the soul breaks down mental prisons when the radiant beauty of the forms, breasts, pubis, belly, legs, bent back and naked emerge, (not the hated object of the seen, but subject of itself, loved, celebrated, paroxysmal) and the increase of the time by the conjugation of the eyes which travel from the skin to the pearls of the skin …
…. and in this ballet, at once beautiful and strange, the face is liberated and charged, thunderstorms, centaurs, primitive scenes, it seems that an oracle has spoken right and true of the ancient words returned from before death, dark fountain of the inexhaustible night of pierced stars and the high predominance of dates and oil … when the pulsation of time takes refuge in the heart of the wound and the world drinks at its source … the wound is then a song. ”
