Rory White –Nashville

Preview

These images represent my Rorshak series: images of artists integrated with their own image, all combined in one frame and printed as they were shot, without any digital manipulation. Each artist was invited to paint, tear, or otherwise mark their own portrait, and then sat in to have their image re-taken, with the altered rendition of their print hanging in front of their face. The resulting 2 dimensional image has a charming, but unsettling, edge. Each subject was chosen because of their roles in the creative movement in Nashville, Tennessee, U.S.A., a.k.a Music City, where I’ve been building my portfolio using the many talented performers who come here to forge their impression on the industry.

This series relates strongly to my original attraction to using a camera-when I met Gregory Heisler as a 17 year-old and he described shooting George Bush’s 2-faced double exposure TIME magazine cover. I was delighted that a person could make a living playing with light and film, making such strange imagery. Sixteen years later, I’m still trying to use photography to make images that leave the impression that his left upon me.
