In October 2012, while preparing for my next trip to America, on a map I spotted a town called Truth or Consequences. Never in my many years of exploring the United States had the name of a town intrigued me more.

The name Truth or Consequences comes from a popular 1950s radio quiz show. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the show, host Ralph Edwards promised to record a special edition in any town that would be willing to change its name to the program’s. Formerly Apache territory on the Rio Grande, the spa town of Hot Springs, New Mexico, rose to the occasion and has been known since as Truth or Consequences.
