Ralph Gibson, The 1990s

Preview

As part of the exhibition Ralph Gibson: The Trilogy, 1970-1974, The Eye of Photography is offering a special edition with a small retrospective of Ralph Gibson’s career. Here you can find a selection of his most beautiful images taken during the 1990s. During these years, Ralph Gibson published, among others, L’Histoire de France (1991) and Pharaonic Light (1995). The first publication is his first color monograph and the result of a long love story that had begun in 1971 when Ralph Gibson went on his first trip to France. Here he reveals subtle colors of architectural detail, gracious figures and deceptive still lifes, which illustrate the permanent attraction that the cultural traditions, the people, and the unique atmosphere of the country have on Gibson. The second is an exploration of Egypt, organized so that the photographs and their position on the page have the goal of evoking the history of modern and ancient Egypt within the reader.
