Catalan Photography in the Context of Spanish Publishing, Rafael Levenfeld
It was in 1840 that the first work of photography was published in Spain: the Panorama óptico-artístico de las Islas Baleares with 39 lithographs produced from daguerreotypes by Francisco Muntaner. The year 1885 saw the first work of photo reportage, shot by Heribert Mariezcurrena. Send to Andalusia for La Il-lustració Catalana, he documented the disasters caused by the December 1884 earthquake that killed more than 800 people.
